Climate Scholars Program

Tackling a global crisis like climate change demands new knowledge to guide capital to do what it can do at its best, which is to drive sustainable value.

It’s why education is at the core of our mission at the MSCI Sustainability Institute.

Our Climate Scholars Program brings together some of the best minds in finance and climate science to support research by master’s-level students. The Institute operates the program in collaboration with MSCI’s Climate Risk Center, which is headquartered in Zurich and brings together some of the best minds in quantitative finance and climate science to design and build new types of models and analytics.

We are currently inviting proposals from students at participating institutions for research on the following topics:

Evaluating the predictive power of Climate VaR on historical returns

This study aims to assess the potential of Climate Value-at-Risk (Climate VaR) to serve as an early warning indicator for the movement of asset prices.

Examining capital-expenditures data from a net-zero perspective.

This research is designed to illuminate what companies’ capital spending can tell investors about the credibility of their climate commitments.
